Revised Rules of Appellate Procedure Released for Public Comment on May 17, 2010

As announced by Chief Justice Davis on May 12, the Revised Rules of Appellate Procedure were released for public comment on Monday, May 17, 2010. The Court invites public comments on the Revised Rules. Public comments should be filed in writing with the Clerk of Court at: State Capitol, Bldg. 1, Room E-317, Charleston WV 25302. The public comment period concludes on July 19, 2010. As stated in the Court's May 12 Order, the comprehensive revisions have been considered for internal review and comment by the Court and its staff for several months.

The Public Information Office has prepared a press release that summarizes the rules and highlights important changes.

Ten Public Education Seminars Scheduled

In order to facilitate public comment and to provide broad public education regarding the Revised Rules, ten free public seminars have been scheduled throughout the state.

The seminars will be conducted by Rory Perry, the Clerk of the Court. The seminars will last ninety minutes. The public and the press are invited to attend and ask questions at the conclusion of the seminars. One printed copy of the Revised Rules of Appellate Procedure will be distributed to each person who attends (supplies permitting).

Attorneys who attend will be eligible to receive 1.8 continuing legal education credits in office management/ethics.

May 17, 2010—10:30 a.m. to noon at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston

May 18, 2010—3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ohio County Public Library Auditorium, 52 16th St. in Wheeling

May 19, 2010—3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fayette County Courthouse in Fayetteville

May 20, 2010—10:30 a.m. to noon at the Judge Black Judicial Annex, Fort Boreman Room, in Parkersburg

May 21, 2010—11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Upshur County Courthouse in Buckhannon

May 24, 2010—10:30 a.m. to noon at the Chief Logan State Park Conference Center in Logan

May 25, 2010—11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the WVU College of Law, Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom, in Morgantown

May 26, 2010—1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the South Branch Inn in Moorefield

May 27, 2010—2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dunn Building, County Commission Hearing Room, in Martinsburg

June 3, 2010—10:30 a.m. to noon at the Pullman PLaza Hotel in Huntington
