LOGAN COUNTY MAGISTRATE
DANNY WELLS RESIGNS

Charleston, W.Va. - Today the Supreme Court of Appeals received the resignation letter of Logan County Magistrate Danny Wells, effective March 24, 2003.

In submitting his resignation Mr. Wells stated, "Sadly, I am resigning due to circumstances surrounding the recent court actions against me. I took honor and great pride in serving the citizens of Logan County for ten years and apologize for any embarrassment these legal proceedings may have brought them."

In light of Mr. Wells’ resignation, the Supreme Court’s March 18, 2003 Administrative Order that established a three-judge court to hear proceedings to remove Mr. Wells will not be necessary.

Before his resignation, the Supreme Court had suspended Mr. Wells without pay since October 15, 2002, pending the outcome of the federal criminal case against him.
