1.  Charles Akins v. Tom's Convenient Food Mart, Inc., d/b/a Whitewater Information - 982931 - Employer appeals final order of the W. Va. Human Rights Commission in an age discrimination action.  The Commission awarded Mr. Akins back-pay and interest in the amount of $4,397.00 and incidental damages in the amount of $1,000.00. 2.  Jerimi Shroades v. Food Lion, Inc. - 982959 - The petitioner appeals from an adverse jury verdict in the Circuit Court of Berkeley County concerning an action wherein the plaintiff alleged that he was injured when struck by a shopping cart. Granted 3-2, Starcher & McGraw

3. State of West Virginia v. Mark Francis Hanna - 983202 - Defendant appeals his conviction of first degree murder.  He was sentenced to life without mercy. Refused 5-0

4. State of West Virginia v. James Eddie Smith - 983166 - The petitioner challenges his jury conviction in the Circuit Court of Marion County of voluntary manslaughter.  The victim was the petitioner's son-in-law.  Refused 4-1, Davis

5. Roy David Vernatter v. Warden, WV Penitentiary - 983302 - The petitioner appeals from an order entered in the Circuit Court of Logan County denying him relief in habeas corpus.  The petitioner, serving a sentence of life, with mercy, upon a 1st degree murder conviction, contends that his rights to effective assistance of counsel and due process were violated. Granted 5-0
