Cabell County Juvenile Drug Court – The Cabell County Juvenile Drug Court Diversion Program seeks to divert non-violent juvenile offenders exhibiting alcohol or substance abuse behavior from the traditional juvenile court process to an intensive individualized treatment process. Monongalia County Magistrate Court Mediation Program – The Monongalia County Magistrate Court Mediation Program assigns selected cases to mediation as an alternative to litigation. The program has become a permanent part of the Monongalia County Magistrate Court, with the hope that the program will expand to other counties. Teen Court – Teen Court is a legally binding alternative system of justice that offers young offenders an opportunity to make restitution for their offenses through community service, educational classes, and jury service. Since July 1, 2006, Teen Court programs from throughout West Virginia have had a place to call home. The West Virginia Teen Court Association works to link new and existing programs together to help share information and collect data on how to effectively deliver justice to youth in our communities who are alleged to have committed a status offense or an act of delinquency which would be considered a misdemeanor if committed by an adult. The Northern Panhandle Mental Health Court Diversion Program – The Northern Panhandle Mental Health Court Diversion Program opened on October 1, 2003. Funded through a two-year federal grant, the pilot program operates in circuit and magistrate courts in Brooke, Hancock, Ohio and Marshall counties. This program gives individuals the opportunity for therapeutic and restorative justice in an effort to keep them from returning to the criminal justice system because of their mental illness. A person may be eligible for the diversion program if they have been charged with either a non-violent felony or misdemeanor offense, and have been diagnosed with a mental illness. The program works in partnership with the Lee Day Report Center and Community Corrections, and Healthways, Inc. Dr. David Marshall of Advanced Psychological Services performs the necessary psychological evaluations.
