MULTISTATE PERFORMANCE TEST

The Multistate Performance Test is a three-hour exam with two performance test questions.  The questions are designed to test an applicant’s ability to use fundamental lawyering skills in a realistic situation.  The materials for each MPT will include a File and a Library.  The MPT requires applicants to (1) sort detailed factual materials and separate relevant from irrelevant facts; (2) analyze statutory, case, and administrative materials for principles of law;  (3) apply the law to the relevant facts in a manner likely to resolve a client’s problem; (4) identify and resolve ethical dilemmas, when present;  (5) communicate effectively in writing;  (6) complete a lawyering task within time constraints.  

MULTISTATE ESSAY EXAMINATION

The Multistate Essay Examination is a three-hour exam with six essay questions to be answered according to the laws of the State of West Virginia.  Questions on the MEE will be taken from at least six of the twelve subject areas listed below.  Some questions may require analysis of more than one subject area.

MULTISTATE BAR EXAMINATION

The Multistate Bar Examination is a six-hour exam with two hundred multiple choice questions, half administered in a three-hour morning session and half in a three-hour afternoon session, covering the following subject areas:

Constitutional Law (33 items)
Contracts (34 items) 
Criminal Law and Procedure (33 items)
Evidence (33 items)
Real Property (33 items)
Torts (34 items)
