Change in Educational Leave

The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia voted in its Administrative Conference on June 4 to revise the Educational Leave Policy to permit the use of educational leave to attend the Court's Bar admission ceremony.

Please insert the following new provision to the Court's Personnel manual. The change is to section 8.6 (C) of the Revised Educational Benefits Policy (6/06), p. 45a.

8.6 - Educational Leave

(C) Education leave may be used to attend the Bar admission ceremony of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. Educational leave may not be used to attend a Bar review course, study for a Bar examination or take a bar examination. If available, personnel may use supervisor-approved annual leave or compensatory time to attend a Bar review course, study for a Bar Examination or take a Bar examination. If annual leave or compensatory time is not available, leave without pay is required. (See Section 8.7 for information on Administrative, Medical, and Family Leave Without Pay and Appendix C for the required "Leave Without Pay" form.) (See also Section 8.8.
