Public Interest Fellowship

The West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest and the Center for Law and Public Service announce an exciting opportunity with the 2010 West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest Fellowship. This Fellowship is open to the West Virginia University College of Law’s graduating students and recent graduates serving in the first two years of a clerkship.

Interested persons are invited to apply for this one-year fellowship opportunity to work at a participating legal services organization in West Virginia beginning the fall of 2010. This year, applicants may either create their own proposals or choose from a variety of proposals submitted by potential host organizations.

The deadline for submission of applications is March 19, 2010, at noon to Career Services at the College of Law.

Applications may be obtained from and submitted to Renee Wolf, Program Assistant, at Renee.Wolf@mail.wvu.edu. Questions concerning this fellowship should be directed to Megan Annitto at the Center for Law and Public Service at the WVU College of Law.

The purpose of the Fellowship is to acquaint beginning lawyers with the professional and personal satisfaction that comes with representing those who would otherwise have no voice in the legal system. In addition, it is designed to bring bright, energetic, and talented lawyers into public interest work in West Virginia.

Applicants will be chosen based upon commitment to public interest legal work, history of public service, and the strength of his or her academic record.

The Fellowship will provide the recipient with employment at one of the following public interest employers in West Virginia:

• The Appalachian Center for the Economy and the Environment
• Childlaw Services
• Legal Aid of West Virginia
• Mountain State Justice
• Any one of the West Virginia Public Defender corporations in West Virginia
• West Virginia Senior Legal Aid
