Paint

Businesses should do a hazardous
waste determination. If the paint is non-hazardous
it can be dried out and disposed of by the local
garbage service. If it is hazardous it must be
disposed of by a qualified firm.

You cannot deposit free-flowing
liquids in West Virginia's landfills. Either air dry
unwanted paint or mix it with a dry substance such
as kitty litter and dry it out. It can then be
disposed of by your local garbage service.

For a complete discussion of
special waste management in West Virginia, go to the
West Virginia 2009 Solid Waste Management Plan,
Chapter 6, Special Waste. The chapter contains a
discussion of federal and state laws and rules
governing the management of special waste, a list of
common household hazardous waste items and
instructions for their disposal and a discussion of
special waste issues in West Virginia including
sewage sludge, agricultural waste, pollution control
residuals, mining waste, industrial waste, white
goods, tires, lead acid batteries, yard waste,
universal waste and bulky goods.

|
In addition to the sources listed
above, you may be able to find information on many
hard to market items in the
West Virginia Materials Exchange. The exchange
posts ads for any type of recyclable or reusable
item. The program is targeted at recycling,
manufacturing and heavy industry. To use the
exchange, click on the exchange link, go to exchange
login, click on option #1, and fill out the contact
information form. You can then browse the materials
available or materials wanted files or post ads. It's
easy, it's fast and it doesn't cost anything.
