2013 Agency Purchasing Conferences

 

The West Virginia Purchasing Division would like to thank all individuals who attended the 2013 Agency Purchasing Conference.  This conference was offered at two locations during back-to-back weeks in October to allow for smaller, more intimate group settings, a shortened version of the agenda to minimize participants’ time spent away from the office, and the opportunity for more individuals to stay on-site at the host facility.  The first conference was conducted at Pipestem Resort State Park from October 22-24 and the second at Stonewall Resort State Park from October 30 - November 1.  A total of 325 participants attended these conferences, an increase of 63 over last year’s single conference.

 

The Purchasing Division strives to make each conference better than the last.  This year, staff and presenters incorporated a variety of unique learning activities into their sessions, from making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, to relay races, to games of hot potato.  One participant commented, “This year has to have been the BEST set-up I have ever attended!  Each class was so interactive and kept everyone on the edge of their seats!  Great job!”

 

Another attendee stated that he liked how the instructors interacted as they explained the information they were teaching while engaging the audience, making the class much more effective.

 

With the conference changes that were implemented this year, the Purchasing Division is pleased to share positive feedback from these two conferences. Nearly 100% of all attendees found the conference environment engaging, conducive for learning, and professional and effective. Additionally, an overwhelming majority of the conference participants rated their overall opinion of the conference as “Excellent” or “Good.”  It is our goal to ensure that every individual benefits from his or her time spent at conference.

At this time, a decision regarding the 2014 Agency Purchasing Conference has not been made, as much of Fall 2014 will be spent transitioning to the statewide wvOASIS system.  However, all agency procurement officers will be notified when information becomes available.
