Job Vacancy Postings for Promotion and Reinstatement Only
IMPORTANT NOTICE. Only current or former permanent State employees who were employed in jobs and with agencies covered by the State Merit System are eligible to apply for Job Vacancy Postings. Applications and resumes received from all other persons CANNOT be considered. Persons employed in positions or with agencies not covered by the merit system, or who worked in temporary positions must apply through the external competitive hiring process.
If you are not a current or former permanent State employee, or worked in an agency not covered by the merit system you cannot apply directly to Job Vacancy Postings.
The Job Vacancy Postings list is updated on Monday between 7 A.M. and 9 A.M. If you are not familiar with the requirements for applying for jobs listed in the on-line Job Vacancy Posting System, please read the information below.
NOTE: Applicants for internal job postings CANNOT use the online application form. Send your application directly to the posting contact person.
West Virginia State law requires agencies to post classified positions for a minimum of 10 calendar days before the vacancy can be filled. The hiring agency may choose to fill the position with a current employee who has permanent status or by reinstating a former employee, or the agency may decide to hire a candidate from a competitive employment register.
To be eligible for posted classified positions, you must be a current or former State employee who was hired from a competitive register and successfully completed the probationary employment period.
The advertised closing date on the job posting is the deadline for receiving applications from current or former employees with permanent status.
If you meet the above status criteria and the posted position requirements, you may submit an application form directly to the contact person shown on the posting. If you are not a current or former employee, DO NOT SUBMIT an application or resume directly to the contact person, unless directly instructed to do so. You should, instead, apply through the competitive job announcement process.
If the hiring agency does not receive a sufficient number of applications from qualified current or former employees, they may request a certification of eligible candidates from the appropriate West Virginia Division of Personnel competitive eligibles list (register). The agency must hire from among the top ten or the 90th percentile of available names as certified by the Division of Personnel.

Postings Search Tip: The postings database is updated weekly. Usually there are between 100 and 200 posted positions. Postings may be searched by position title, salary, and location. The default display is 25 items at a time. If you want to display or print a list of all posted positions matching your search choices, enter a large number, such as 999, in the “Results per Page” box. The file may take a little longer to load.
