HAIRSTYLIST
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, performs work at the full
performance level by caring for the hair, hands, and nails of
residents of a state facility. Has latitude to vary methods and
procedures to achieve desired results. Instructs residents in
self-care. Performs related work as required.
Examples of Work
Conducts classes to instruct residents in self-care,
individually or in groups, and keeps appropriate patient
records.
Cuts and shampoos hair.
Gives permanents.
Gives manicures and pedicures.
Mixes shampoo from concentrate.
Keeps records of services provided.
Cleans and disinfects hairstyling tools and equipment; cleans
shop area.
Secures operating supplies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of beauty care and
treatments.
Knowledge of hair cutting techniques.
Knowledge of the care and safe operation of beauty shop
equipment and materials.
Knowledge of the use and hazards of chemical solutions used.
Skill in cutting and shaping various hair styles.
Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with
residents.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
Minimum Qualifications

Training:
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard
four-year high school and completion of a course in beauty
culture at a school of recognized standing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must be licensed by the West Virginia
Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.
