PHYSICAL THERAPIST 1
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, performs
professional, full-performance level work providing physical
therapy services to patients in a state facility. Receives
written orders from physicians in the form of prescriptions.
Conducts or delegates physical therapy exercises or treatments to
be performed. Writes evaluative reports. Trains staff, student
nurses or family members in proper treatment of patients.
Significant latitude for professional discretion in the
performance of duties is afforded in this position. Performs
related work as required.
Examples of Work
Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy
treatment.
Plans, supervises and participates in the total program of
physical therapy activities; arranges schedules of client,
subordinates, and others.
Administers individual client assessment tests; evaluates
client needs; develops physical therapy treatment plans and
conducts and/or directs the implementation of treatment for
individual patients.
Develops unit equipment purchase and budget recommendations;
interviews applicants and recommends appointment of staff.
May develop and conduct formal training programs relating to
physical therapy for intern students, nursing staff and
volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and techniques of physical therapy.
Knowledge of specialized equipment used in professional
physical therapy treatment.
Ability to develop techniques and procedures for professional
physical therapy treatment.
Ability to supervise and make tests and examinations including
nerve and muscle tests and to determine needs for various
treatments.
Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations.
Minimum Qualifications

Special Requirement:
Applicants must be licensed as a
Physical Therapist in West Virginia.
