MASSAGE
THERAPIST
Nature of
Work
Under general
supervision, at the full-performance level, performs massage and physiotherapy
and assists lodge guests at a state park in the use of steam baths, sauna,
exercise equipment, etc. Responsibilities include advising patrons in the
safe use of equipment; notifying them of health conditions which prohibit
the use of certain equipment; and supervising subordinates such as attendants,
summer help, etc. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Activities
Director and/or Lodge Manager. Performs related work as required.
Examples
of Work
Practices massage
and physiotherapy upon patrons' request.
Inspects steam
and sauna bath equipment to assure safe use, i.e., thermostats, steam pressure
gauges, ventilation, door latches, etc.
Notifies patrons
when they have reached the time limit in steam or sauna baths.
Periodically
inspects exercise equipment to assure that it functions safely.
Maintains health
club in a neat and orderly fashion.
Maintains supply
inventory of towels, linens, soap, etc.
Prepares Roman
baths, steam cabinets, etc., for patrons.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of
the practice of massage and physiotherapy.
Knowledge of
the use of exercise equipment.
Ability to
safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of guests.
Ability to
meet patrons and maintain courteous and efficient service.
Ability to
enforce regulations with tact and courtesy and to inform patrons of health
club regulations.
Ability to
understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Minimum
Qualifications [Top]
Training:
Graduation
from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.
Experience:
Six months
of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a massage therapist.
Substitution:
Completion
of a certified course in massage therapy, including training and Swedish
massage therapy which may be substituted on a month-by-month basis for
the required experience; OR, current licensure as a Massage Therapist by
the WV Massage Therapy Board may be substituted for the training and experience.
NOTE: West Virginia Code 30-37-11(b) Exemptions. Persons exempted under this subdivision states that "the activities of any resort spa or nonprofit health and recreational facility that has been operating on a continuing basis since the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred seventy five, or any employees of the resort spa."
The West Virginia Massage Therapy Licensure Board acknowledges this exemption for Berkeley Springs State Park.
