Free Workshops

 

 

The State Law Library offers a free Résumé Writing Workshop the second Friday of each month at 2:00 p.m.  Staff librarians presents examples of different types of résumés, explains how and what information to include to best enhance the job-seeker's skills and experience, and discusses how to write a cover letter and proper thank-you response after an interview. He also demonstrates online job searching techniques and gives instruction on using the free public access computers.  

The Library also offers a free Basic Legal Research Workshop the fourth Friday of each month at 2 p.m.  Staff librarians explain how to research common legal topics, methods of searching print materials and electronic databases, and techniques for locating cases and statutes.  Assistance with researching common topics such as landlord-tenant disputes, divorce and child custody issues, and estate planning and wills is available. 

All workshops are held in the State Law Library in Building 1, Room E-404 of the State Capitol Complex. Sessions are free and open to the general public. Metered parking is available on the streets surrounding the Capitol and in the surface lot near the Culture Center.  Enter the building from the California Avenue entrance and take the elevator to the fourth floor.  Turn right and go to the end of the hall.  For information on other upcoming workshops, call (304) 558-2607.
