West Virginia Bar Examination

Application Instructions

·         Mail one original application to the NCBE with your payment either by filling in the credit card information or by paying with a check or money order.

a)      One (1) completed and notarized original application.  Please exclude the NCBE request for preparation of a character report and the NCBE fee schedule (first two pages).

b)      One (1) completed Application Affidavit with original signatures of applicant and Notary Public.

c)      One (1) completed Affidavit of Authorization and Release with original signatures of applicant and Notary Public.

d)     If you are requesting transfer of a previous MBE score, please complete and submit the MBE Request And Release Form.  Please reference the MBE Transfer Fee Schedule  to determine the applicable fee to include.

e)      Application Filing Fee payable to the State of West Virginia.  Please reference the Application Filing Fee Schedule to determine the applicable fee to include.  Methods of payment accepted are check or money order only; the West Virginia Board of Law Examiners does not accept credit card payments.

a)      Copies of bar applications you have filed in any other jurisdictions.

b)      Official transcripts from the schools that awarded your undergraduate degree and your law degree (transcripts must show that your degree has been awarded and the date it was awarded.)

c)      Original credit report obtained within the last 30 days (one that you can print for free from the internet is acceptable.)

d)     Original Certificates of Good Standing from the Clerk of the Supreme Court from each state where you have been admitted to practice.

e)      Official score report from the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE).  A scaled score of at least 75 obtained within the timeframe specified in the Rules for Admission is required.  Note:  You must provide this report even if you specified WV as one of the reporting states when you took the exam!

f)       Changes in application information must be reported promptly in writing to the West Virginia Board of Law Examiners.  Please submit using the Application Update Form.
